The Prototype

Description

This is my rendition of Alex Mercer from the game Prototype. A product of love and nurturing, I spent a good part of the summer on it, through trials of learning how to paint in CS2.

It's also before I found screenshots of Prototype on the Giant Bomb website.

This was a compilation of references - I used a pic of Sam Wit (actor from Smallville), and a little of Rob Lowe (for the eyes) but for the most part the end result is my own rendition of Alex Mercer...
Alex is HOT...

Anyways, I may need your advice on this one guys.
You see, I've had this internal struggle: I'd like a background in it, however I don't want it to detract from the detail I put into it. Should I leave it like this, or attempt a background image?

Great work on the painting and attention to detail especially on the face. I also particularly like the detail on the eyes, brows and the zippers. I love your choice of colors for the skin tones and the lips. Nice proportions too, the face looks extremely realistic. I also like the blurring effect at the ends of the scarf/cloak.

I'm actually not familiar with Prototype but it looks like the hood is too small for the head, maybe you can increase the size in the base area. Also, it seems the detail is somewhat lacking in the cloth areas, making the level of detail seem unbalanced. Maybe you can try to add seams or textures to the hood and jacket to balance out the level of detail across the whole image.

My opinion is that you should put up a background. I think this will give more life/realism to the character in terms of actually situating him in an environment.

Overall I think this is really good <img src="e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/s…" width="15" height="15" alt=":)" title=":) (Smile)" /> Hope this helps!
